Our Story

background

Recybags [re-si-bags] is a social enterprise and livelihood program, created by the Rise Above Foundation, based in Cebu.

Laminated rice and feed sacks are upcycled and repurposed to create Recybags. This lessens the carbon footprint, as what was once considered waste, is now a work of art.

The ladies of the program hand weave each and every single Recybag, which results in each bag being truly unique, with no two bags ever being the exact same.

history

In 2008, The Rise Above Foundation was born. Their mission was to help communities around Cebu through numerous programs such as dental missions, food programs, home building projects, educati
onal projects and disaster relief assistance, just to name a few.

Eager to help some more, they decided to focus on the mothers of the children who had no stable means of income and could not sustain a healthy life for their families. It was this realization that gave birth to the bag making livelihood program. By teaching the mothers a new skill and giving new life to materials that would have otherwise been considered waste, Recybags was created.

Today, the Recybags program is growing strong. The livelihood program has extended to different towns in Cebu and they continue to train other communities regularly. Although the team is still small, every life that has changed and made better by the program is considered a victory.

Together we can make a difference.
